Making currency guide
How players make currency in Path of Exile 2 in patch 0.5.5: Exalted and Divine Orbs, selling through Merchant's Tabs and premium stash tabs, price checking, and the farming strategies creators recommend (Abyss, Delirium splinters, juiced Waystones, Expedition, crafting), each dated, with the risks of chasing them.
The fastest way to make currency in Path of Exile 2 in patch 0.5.5 is to farm endgame content whose drops other players want (Abyss, Delirium splinters, Expedition and rolled Waystones, by creators' accounts) and to sell what you find through a Merchant's Tab, pricing in Exalted and Divine Orbs. The currency is the game's own crafting orbs, and Schwingy's tips for new players (Jan 7, 2025) note that players mostly buy and sell items in Exalted Orbs and Divine Orbs, the Divine being by far the rarer; that is a convention among players, not a rule set by Grinding Gear Games (GGG). Raxxanterax's trading guide of January 2025 sets out what is at stake: in a trade league, knowing how to sell what you find and buy what you need is the most valuable tool for getting strong, more than a good build or running tier 15 maps. The strategies below are each creator's own, with the date and patch they come from; GGG rebalances loot often, and a method that pays one month can be gone the next. How each orb works in crafting is on Crafting and currency; the trade site and its rules are on Trade.

The orbs that matter
Zizaran's guide to currency (Dec 23, 2024) explains why Divine Orbs are traded rather than used. An Exalted Orb adds a modifier to an item that is already usable, and you collect plenty of them in the endgame. A Divine Orb rerolls the numbers on an item's modifiers, including the implicit, but only within their tiers, so it is worth using only on a few items with wide ranges, such as the Ingenuity belt. New players, he says, are better off selling their Divines for smaller currency or spending them on a big upgrade for their build. A Chaos Orb, by the game's own text, removes one random modifier from a rare and adds another; since 0.3.0 there are also Greater and Perfect versions of the basic orbs. Gold is a separate in-game money: players collected over 8 trillion of it in the first two weeks of 0.5, by GGG's count.
Selling what you find
Since The Third Edict (0.3.0), you can sell while offline. GGG presented the system in its reveal of Aug 20, 2025: Ange, met in Kingsmarch in Act 4, moves into your hideout, runs your Currency Exchange and sells items you give her from a Merchant's Tab, each with a price in orbs such as Exalted or Chaos Orbs. Buyers find the item on the trade website, teleport straight to your hideout and pay your price plus a Gold fee, and you get a notification and collect the currency from Ange whenever you like. Premium Stash Tabs bought before the update could be converted, and they still work the old way. GGG's FAQ (Aug 25, 2025) adds that a Merchant's Tab only sells items that are not on the Currency Exchange, which handles stackable currency, and that it is not available in Solo Self-Found.
Raxxanterax's pricing habit from January 2025 still works for the bulk of your drops: make a public premium stash tab with one fixed price, dump every decent item in it, and lower the price as days pass, from 5 Exalted Orbs to 4 to 3, until things sell. Two rules of etiquette: do not list items you will not sell, and answer whispers. If an item draws a flood of whispers the moment you list it, you have underpriced it, as when he pictures a five-Divine Hand of Wisdom and Action dropped into a three-Exalted tab: take it out and price it on its own.
Knowing what an item is worth is half the work. GGG's quality-of-life video for Return of the Ancients (May 27, 2026) shows that since 0.5.0 a modifier-click on an item searches the trade market for it from inside the game, and on rare items you can switch individual modifiers on and off to see which one carries the price. On the trade website, Lolcohol's guide (Mar 27, 2025) also shows the bulk item exchange for stackable items, though the in-game Currency Exchange has replaced most of its use.
Some markets are thin because pricing is tedious. Fubgun (Sep 26, 2026) singles out Precursor Tablets: with so many modifiers, most players never price check or list them, which leaves little supply and lets the best tablets sell for 30 to 80 Divine Orbs. Unlike currency, tablets cannot be bought in bulk on the exchange.
Timing matters as much as content. In a fresh economy everyone starts at zero, Diztoh pointed out on Aug 31, 2026 as Forbidden Rites approached: early on, plain item bases sell and prices move fast, which is why many players race to make currency in the first days. Forbidden Rites and Runes of Aldur cannot trade with each other, and he expected most players to move to the fresh event league.
Farming strategies creators use
Barricade's two money makers in 0.5 (Jul 5, 2026) are Abyss and Delirium. Abyss, he says, "prints money" when the Amanamu monster family appears, because it drops the Omen of Abyssal Echoes and Omens of Light. Delirium maps of area level 75 and above drop Simulacrum Splinters, about 5 Exalted each at the time, and 300 make a Simulacrum, then worth about 2.8 Divines. The Atlas guide on Zizaran's channel (Jun 16, 2026) agrees on Abyss as the starter mechanic for easy currency that drops Divine Orbs and omens without much investment. In 0.5.5 GGG added Abyssal ravines, chains of maps with abysses that grow more rewarding until a guaranteed Abyssal boss (see Endgame mapping guide).
The more expensive way to raise every map's value is to roll the Waystone. Barricade's omen recipe takes a rare Waystone with exactly five modifiers, activates the Omen of Chaotic Rarity, Omen of Chaotic Quantity and Omen of Chaotic Effectiveness, which come from Ritual, and uses a Chaos Orb; the only result the omens allow is 103% monster rarity with 70% Waystone drop chance. An Exalted Orb then adds a sixth modifier. One of his attempts failed on camera because the map had only four modifiers. See Waystones.
Expedition was a favorite of 0.5. Palsteron's guide, recorded after patch 0.5.3 (Jun 23, 2026), found that a Grand Expedition yields about two to three Divines from the worst maps and upward of ten from the best, and that ten-rune remnants guarantee Aldur's Legacy, which he sold for 200 to 430 Divines, or a permanent boon such as 5% more maximum life and mana. Nine-rune rewards include the Mirror of Kalandra and Hinekora's Lock, which he says you will probably never see. Since 0.5.5 Expedition is part of the core game, with new Expedition tablets.
Crafting can also pay. MyleSwi's step-by-step craft (Feb 19, 2026) budgets 10 to 20 Exalted Orbs per attempt: buy a normal base of item level 76 to 82, use a Perfect Orb of Transmutation and a Greater Orb of Augmentation, make it rare with a Greater Essence for a guaranteed stat, fill one or two slots with Exalted Orbs and the last with a desecration, then decide whether it is an upgrade, worth selling or scrap. Corruption is the gamble at the top end: Raxxanterax tells of a friend whose Vaal Orb turned a 10-Divine Ingenuity belt into one he sold for 350 Divines.
Playing in a group multiplies currency. Fubgun explains that a party gets 100% more currency per player, so two players get double and split it evenly, and because they also split the cost of a juiced map, groups come out ahead. That has made "leeching" and playing two accounts at once popular, which he says prices solo players out of some strategies and inflates the economy, and he expects it to get worse when the game goes free to play on Dec 11, 2026.
When a strategy breaks
The Fate of the Vaal temple shows how fast a money maker can change. Raxxanterax's temple guide (Jan 5, 2026) recounts that players first hated the 0.4 league mechanic, then community players found strategies that made it the most lucrative thing in the game, then GGG cut it back hard after its Christmas break; with a hotfix that reverted the biggest nerf, he found it viable to build again and, as far as he knew, still the highest Divines per hour.
sirgog's reaction to that nerf, patch 0.4.0c Hotfix 13 (Jan 3, 2026), describes the cost for everyone else: the players who loved the over-buffed temples lost their fun, while those who felt buried under the temple farmers' wealth saw the ladder pulled up, and the inflation that had already devalued ordinary map loot stayed. The first camp, he notes, had been urging everyone to get their Divines before the temples were fixed. See Controversies.
Currency at 1.0
Wealth made now stays in Early Access. When the game fully launches on Dec 11, 2026, every Early Access character moves to a Standard Early Access realm where it stays playable but cannot interact with characters made at or after 1.0's launch, Talkative Tri summed up on Oct 8, 2026 from what GGG has confirmed; so the orbs and items in an Early Access stash cannot be traded to a 1.0 character, and 1.0 begins as a fresh economy where everyone starts at zero, as a new league does (Leagues and game modes, Full release). Forbidden Rites and Runes of Aldur both run until then.
Strategies may not survive the move either. GGG said in its 0.5.5 stream (Aug 27, 2026) that it had moved a much larger balance pass from 0.5.5 to 1.0, and every launch brings new endgame content and a league, so the farming routes on this page are for 0.5.5e and need checking again at 1.0 (Updates and leagues). Fubgun expects the free-to-play launch to make group play and multi-accounting, which already inflate prices, more common still.
Frequently asked questions
What is the main currency in Path of Exile 2? Players mostly price items in Exalted Orbs for everyday trades and Divine Orbs for expensive ones. GGG does not set an official trade currency; Gold is a separate in-game money for vendors and trade fees.
How do I sell items in Path of Exile 2? Put them in a Merchant's Tab and give them to Ange in your hideout with a price; buyers purchase them from the trade website even while you are offline. Premium Stash Tabs also still work for whisper trades.
Can I sell currency through a Merchant's Tab? No. GGG's FAQ says Merchant's Tabs only sell items that are not on the Currency Exchange; currency goes through the exchange.
What is the best way to farm Divine Orbs? It changes by patch. In 0.5, Barricade recommended Abyss and Delirium splinters, the Atlas guide on Zizaran's channel Abyss, and Palsteron Grand Expeditions; check that a strategy still works in the current patch.
Should I use my Divine Orbs? Zizaran advises new players to sell them or trade them for a big upgrade, since a Divine only rerolls numbers within existing tiers.
Does playing in a party give more loot? Yes. Fubgun says a group gets 100% more currency per player, so each player's share matches solo play while the cost of a map is split.
Can I trade in Solo Self-Found? No. Solo Self-Found characters cannot trade, and Merchant's Tabs are not available there.
Does my currency carry over to 1.0? Not into the new economy. At 1.0 on Dec 11, 2026 Early Access characters, and what they own, move to a Standard Early Access realm that cannot trade with characters made at or after launch; 1.0 characters start from nothing.
Is it worth farming currency before 1.0? Only for use in Early Access. Currency made in Forbidden Rites or Runes of Aldur stays with Early Access characters, and GGG has moved its big balance pass to 1.0, so today's farming strategies may change.
